INVOCELL: Using Your Body as an Incubator to Help Lower Treatment Costs

An alternative to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI), INVOCELL is a device that enables women to use their own bodies as incubators for fertilization, helping reduce treatment costs. Through its intravaginal culture (IVC) system, eggs, and sperm are combined in the INVOCELL culture device, which is subsequently placed into the vagina with a retention device, providing a natural environment for the embryos’ development and mimics conditions of a natural conception.

FDA-cleared and clinically tested, INVOCELL patients can benefit from the following:

  • Reduced costs of treatments due to the use of mild ovarian stimulation
  • Live birth rates based on day 3 embryo transfers were as high as 25%, exceeding those of IUI in one study*
  • Potentially fewer monitoring appointments, as decided by your doctor, minimizing disruptions to your daily life’s schedule
  • The ability to cryopreserve or donate excess embryos that are not implanted
  • An added level of involvement and intimacy in developing embryo

* Success rates should always be verified via the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). To view IVFMD’s success rates, as compiled by the above regulatory bodies, please click here.

FAQs

  • Patients may experience some discomfort during implantation, but INVOCELL should not cause any pain while inside your body. The culture device itself is 1.5 inches wide and just over an inch tall. If you experience any discomfort, call your doctor.

  • According to INVOCELL, success rates typically are higher than that of IUI, which tends to be very cost-effective, and are lower than that of IVF, which tends to be more expensive.

INVOCELL was studied in a clinical trial involving 450 cycles, 421 of which resulted in embryo transfers. Of these transfers, about 1 in 4 resulted in a birth. It’s important to know that adverse pregnancy events, like miscarriage and pre-term births, were reported in the clinical study, as these were primarily related to the effectiveness of the device (live birth rate).
