The Lawsuits allege that three lots of CooperSurgical embryo media were missing a key nutrient, magnesium, that allegedly compromised embryo development. The recalled lots of media were used by clinics across North America in November and December. The Food and Drug Administration posted a public recall notice on Wednesday 2/14.

Culture media are substances that supply vital nutrients and minerals to support the growth of microorganisms. In the context of IVF, once an egg and sperm have been combined to create an embryo, that embryo is grown in a culture medium before implantation in the uterus.
